New blood test for irritable bowel syndrome on the horizon
There is a new a blood test to aid in the diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome, but the test’s accuracy is far from perfect. The sensitivity of the test was only 50% with specificity of 88%. In other words, if you have irritable bowel syndrome, the test will detect it 50% of the time. The blood test is still in early-stage development, even though Prometheus Laboratories in San Diego is already offering it clinically.
