CabD.A.R.T:  PSTA Demand Response Transportation (updated 10/3/08 )

(partially funded publicly) Wheel chair and ambulatory transportation in Pinellas County, for people with permanent or temporary disabilities who are unable to independently use the regular, wheelchair accessible PSTA buses. Care Ride

Provides W/C, Medi-Chair and Stretcher transport for handicapped individuals. Care Ride is a private company affiliated with Bay Care and is a DART PSTA W/C Transport Provider as well as Medicaid and Evercare Provider. Available 7 days a week. Picks up from Pinellas County, Florida only but will transport anywhere within the State of Florida. (updated 10/3/08 )

To qualify for DART benefits, an application through DART must be completed in advance. For a DART application, call (727) 540-1800 (select option #2 for Demand Response Transportation).

Provides W/C, Medi-Chair, and Stretcher transport. Medi-Chair transportation is a more cost-effective alternative to non-emergency ambulance transportation.  This mode of transportation is suitable for people who are medically stable and can transport comfortably at a sitting angle no lower than 30 degrees.  Each Medi-Chair transport is equipped with specialized equipment and is staffed by a state certified emergency medical technician (EMT).

Prescheduled, door to door transportation for people 55 and older and/or disabled

Transportation Disadvantaged Program

Provides transportation for persons in Pinellas County who are transportation disadvantaged and have income less than 200% above poverty level.

  • Client must be approved first and can call for an application.
  • Schedule transportation 3 to 5 days in advance, no later than the day before transportation is needed.
  • Transportation is for medical and dental appointments, physical therapy, support groups and to pick up prescription medication, employment and education.
  • Fees: Ambulatory $3, Wheelchair $3 per one-way.

Express Medical Transporters (updated January 2009)

A Pinellas County Medicaid and Transportation Disadvantaged Program Provider servicing the Medicaid and Transportation Disadvantaged program in Pinellas County. EMT specializes in Non-emergency transportation to and from doctors, dialysis, dentist etc.Will assisting children with transportation needs to school, etc.
Services are available for anyone in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco counties.

Services include:
• Wheel chair services.
• Ambulatory services
• Companions always ride free.
• EMT works with Medicaid, multiple insurance companies and accepts private pay.
• EMT is available for transportation 24 hours a day – 7 days a week.

Tarpon Springs Shepherd Center

Emergency transportation for persons of all ages in Tarpon Springs, to medical and dental appointments (and sometimes shopping). Fees Charged: None, donations accepted. Also, offers information and referral, telephone reassurance, vouchers for shoes, gasoline and prescriptions available. One or two night emergency lodging available through arrangement with local hotel.

American Red Cross Angel Wings Transportation Services

  • Free transportation for those in need who are ambulatory. People transported include: Elderly and/or disabled, Cancer patients and multiple sclerosis patients for scheduled treatments and /or therapy, and Dialysis patients who have no other means of transportation to receive their treatment. Children under 18 must be accompanied by their parent(s). Young children must have own car seat.

Rent-A-Ride of Pinellas County will transport you to the mall, doctors, school, shopping, airports, downtown St. Petersburg, Clearwater, or just about anywhere else you need to go. Call for rates, Van transportation available. Drivers are insured and bonded. Driver will wait at doctor's office for $20/1st hour and $10 thereafter. Rent-A-Ride can accommodate up to six passengers in mini van, or two or four in private car. Fees Charged: $20 (1st hour); Round trip to appts. $10/add'l hour (Pn. Cnty.), or $1.40/mi.
